A covered van driver and his assistant, both siblings, died after their vehicle was hit from behind by another covered van in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla on early Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as driver Md Sagar and his assistant and brother Belal Hossain, residents of the Jhenaihat area of Rajarhat Police Station in Kurigram.

Miabazar Highway Police Station officer-in-charge, SM Lokman Hossain, confirmed the news.

According to police and fire service, the Dhaka-bound covered van (Jhinaidah – Ch:M 11-2678) had broken down and was stationary on the road. While attempting to push-start the vehicle, another covered van collided with the rear of the broken-down van, trapping the driver and his assistant between the two vehicles.

Later, local members of the Chauddagram Fire Service arrived at the scene and recovered their bodies.

Miabazar Highway Police Station sub-inspector Anwarul Islam said, ‘The bodies of the covered van driver and helper will be handed over to the relatives after the legal process is completed.’
